Weight is more complicated than eating less and moving more. Many people come to us for support with cravings, stress and digestion alongside a sensible plan.
How Chinese medicine sees it
Chinese medicine places a lot of weight on digestion. When your digestive system is strong and in balance, your body is better able to process food and use its nutrients, and cravings tend to settle.
Eating is also emotional. Acupuncture aims to lower stress and lift your mood, and it has long been used to help with cravings of many kinds. It isn't a silver bullet. It's meant to support a healthy eating and activity plan.
How we treat it
- Acupuncture focused on digestion, appetite, stress and mood.
- Ear seeds you can press between visits when cravings hit.
- Chinese food therapy: choosing foods that suit your body, the season and your goals.
- Custom herbal formulas prescribed by Scott Paglia, L.Ac., where your pattern calls for them.
What to expect
- A relaxed consultation and a full health history. We'll ask about your eating patterns, cravings, digestion, stress and what you've tried before, and about your sleep, digestion, energy and stress too.
- A traditional Chinese medicine exam, including your pulse and your tongue.
- A clear explanation of what we found and how Chinese medicine understands it.
- A treatment plan made for you, with time for all your questions.
- We'll recommend a plan after your first appointment, and adjust it as we see how you respond.
If you have a medical condition or take medication that affects your weight, keep your physician involved in your plan.
Common questions
Will acupuncture make me lose weight on its own?
No. It's meant to support a sensible eating and activity plan, mainly by helping with cravings, stress and digestion.
What are ear seeds?
Tiny seeds or pellets taped to points on the ear. They don't pierce the skin. You press them several times a day, and you can keep them on for up to a week.
